The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, has formally accepted the invitation from Africa Eye News to serve as the Chief Host at the public launch of the book, “The INEC Press Corps: Chronicles of Nigeria’s Election Journalists.” This was contained in a statement signed by Segun Ojumu, Author and Chairman INEC Press Corps.
According to the statement, the Chairman made this commitment on Thursday during a meeting with a delegation from Africa Eye News at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Professor Amupitan’s appearance at the event is a further demonstration of his commitment to deepen the excellent relationship which INEC enjoys with the Media, emphasizing the crucial role of the Fourth Estate in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
The meeting had in attendance the Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, and the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Dayo Oyetola.
The book is authored by Segun Ojumu, the Chairman of the INEC Press Corps, and comes after over a decade of covering the Commission, including three general elections and numerous gubernatorial polls.
This publication is particularly special as it marks the first time that the experiences of journalists covering the Commission have been documented in a book format, providing a unique and valuable historical perspective on election coverage in Nigeria.
The event is scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025, at The Electoral Institute (TEI) and is billed to be attended by top officials from INEC, representatives from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the Academia, and the wider Media community.
