The Ministry of Regional Development has formally welcomed its new Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mary A. Ogbe, who was redeployed from the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development. The official handover ceremony took place on Monday, May 6, 2025, as Mrs. Tinuke Watti graciously handed over the reins of administrative leadership to Dr. Mary A. Ogbe. This was contained in a statement signed by Angela A Akashili, Ag. Head of Unit (Press and Public Relations)

The Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, in his welcome address, expressed his delight at the arrival of the new Permanent Secretary, stating that the purpose of the meeting was not only to welcome Dr. Ogbe, but also to officially introduce her to the Management team of the Ministry. He emphasized the importance of her role and enjoined members to give their full and unwavering support. He further stressed that such cooperation is essential for the smooth execution of the Ministry’s mandate and the achievement of its strategic goals.

He reminded attendees that the Ministry, formerly known as the Ministry of Niger Delta, would now hold regular meetings to develop new, strategic paths for national development, with special emphasis on regional inclusivity and impact. “We are in a new era of transformation,” he said, “and collaboration will be key as we work to reposition the Ministry for greater effectiveness.”

The Honourable Minister of State, H. E. Uba Maigari Ahmadu also extended his warm welcome to Dr. Ogbe, expressing confidence in her capacity and leadership. He urged all Directors and Heads of Units to renew their commitment and increase their efforts toward fulfilling the mandate of the Ministry as expediently as possible. “This is a time for purposeful engagement. The work ahead requires focus, unity, and dedication from everyone,” he said.

In her remarks, Dr. Mary A. Ogbe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Regional Development, thanked the Honourable Ministers and Directors for the warm reception. She revealed that work was already in top gear and that she had received comprehensive briefings from all departments and units of the Ministry.

She called for collective responsibility and unity of purpose, stressing that “We can either achieve together or fail together—and I believe no one wants failure.” Dr. Ogbe also admonished all Directors and Unit Heads to ensure that administrative documents are treated with the urgency they deserve. “Let’s build a responsive and efficient system together,” she said.

The Ministry looks forward to a new chapter under the leadership of Dr. Mary A. Ogbe, one marked by strategic development, strengthened teamwork, and impactful outcomes for all regions.
