The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Skill Acquisition Training and Youth Empowerment on Moden Methods of Electrical Installation and Maintenance” kicked-off at the Upstairs Hall, Ime Obi, Ezechima Square, Awka Roadd, Onitsha, Anambra State, with 100 participants selected from Onitsha North and South.
Declaring open the 5-day training workshop, on 7th July, 2026, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu who was represented by the Director of Nano Science, Directorate of Science Infrastructure, Dr. Chika Ezeanyanaso, explained that the intensive training on “Modern Methods of Electrical Installations and Maintenance,” was designed to equip Onitsha youths with practical, marketable skills.
The EVC/CEO stated that it is part of NASENI’s commitment to human capacity development and a direct contribution to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes youth empowerment and economic inclusion.
While urging the youths to take advantage of the training to become self-reliance, he declared: “To our 100 trainees, this is your opportunity. Be attentive, work hard, and make the most of every session. At the end of this programme, you will receive starter kits to help you begin your own businesses. Your success is our success.”
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred, expressed his appreciation to President Tinubu and Management of NASENI for bringing the Renewed Hope Agenda through the skill acquisition programme to Onitsha. He added that this is a way of deepening science, technology and innovation to the grassroots.
According to the Obi of Onitsha, the skill acquisition is a special thing as it will help the youths to learn trade and become self-employed, adding that white kola job is good but everybody cannot be employed by the government.
“It is a privilege for us to have this opportunity. I believe that in 10-20 days time you will have your own electrical company. So, I urge you not to underrate why we have gathered here today. Most of our prominent sons went through apprentice and today, they are known everywhere. They started small and today; they have their companies,” he stated.
The 5-day training will focus on Modern Electrical Safety on-site, Introduction to electronics, Industrial Electricity and Electronics, Modern Electrical Wiring, Wiring Installation Drawing and Interpretation.
