The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Air Peace
over series of unexplained operational disruptions affecting passengers.

NCAA’s spokesperson, Micheal Achimugu, disclosed this on Saturday via a post on his official X handle.

According to the authority, the development follows complaints from passengers on the airline’s Heathrow–Abuja flight who were reportedly rerouted through Gatwick, Lagos and Abuja, before being stranded in Lagos after the aircraft made an air return due to a cracked windshield.

The regulatory authority said the incident, along with complaints of delayed refunds, compensation, and provision of first need assistance to affected passengers, has triggered the activation of its Consumer Protection Department.

According to the NCAA, it will not tolerate any situation where paying passengers are abandoned by airlines.

While reaffirming its continued support for domestic carriers, the Authority stressed that all operators must adhere to the highest operational and service standards.

The NCAA added that a full investigation into the disruptions would be conducted, with appropriate regulatory action to be taken based on findings from the incident.

It noted that such actions would be guided by the provisions of Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which outlines passenger rights and airline obligations.

The authority reiterated that as the sole regulatory body for civil aviation in Nigeria, it remains committed to protecting the rights and interests of all aviation stakeholders.
