The Federal Government has strongly condemned the deadly terrorist attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, describing the incident as a heinous and senseless act of violence that underscores the growing global threat of terrorism and hate-motivated crimes.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria said it was deeply saddened by the shooting, which reportedly targeted members of the Jewish community and claimed at least 15 lives, while several others sustained injuries.
Nigeria extended its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Australia, as well as to the families and loved ones of the victims, noting that the tragedy had sent shockwaves beyond Australia’s shores.
“The Government of Nigeria stands in solidarity with all those affected by this horrific attack and wishes the injured a swift and full recovery,” the statement said.
The Federal Government stressed that terrorism, violent extremism, and hate-driven attacks in all their forms remain a grave global menace, threatening peace, social cohesion, and the shared values of humanity.
According to the statement, the Sydney attack highlights the urgent need for stronger international cooperation, intelligence sharing, and collective resolve in confronting terrorism, antisemitism and all forms of violent hatred worldwide.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s position, the government said it remains unwavering in its commitment to the global fight against terrorism, extremism and intolerance, while continuing to support international initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, mutual respect and justice.
“No society should be targeted based on religion, ethnicity, or identity,” the statement added, emphasising that the protection of diversity and human dignity is central to global stability.
Nigeria also aligned itself with the international community in rejecting violence in all its manifestations, calling for concerted global action to ensure that perpetrators of such crimes are brought to justice.
The government further urged sustained efforts to address the root causes of extremism through dialogue, inclusion, and respect for human dignity.
