Nigeria, Mexico deepen relations in first consultation Mechanism on matters of mutual interest

The meeting was co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and Ambassador Anibal Gomez Toledo, Director-General for Africa,Central Asia and Middle-East, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico.

Items discussed during the meeting in Abuja include: Political Dialogue, where the two countries explored outlook for visits, meetings, and dialogue mechanisms as well as the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Mexico.

On economic and trade relations, the meeting discussed assessment of exchanges and visits by business delegations.
It also discussed the promotion of the Nigeria-Mexico Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as the exploration of opportunities for trades, investment, and business linkages.

On the issue of legal instruments under negotiation/cooperation, the meeting also discussed the promotion of ongoing negotiations, opportunities for agreements as well as identification of new areas of cooperation.

On multilateral affairs, the meeting discussed pending candidacies of both countries at the multilateral fora, participation of Nigeria and Mexico in the G-20 Summit, as well as the reform of the United Nations.

Another area of discussion also includes regional affairs, especially the regional situation of ECOWAS.
