The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has graduated 1,626 officers from the Fourth Combined and Upgrading Course, 2026, with the Service charged them to uphold professionalism and deploy technology effectively in tackling emerging challenges in border security and migration management.
The graduation ceremony, marked by a Passing Out Parade, was held at the Immigration Training School, Kano (ITSK), and the Digital Bridge Institute, following the successful completion of the training programme designed to strengthen the professional capacity and operational competence of participating officers.
Representing the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, at the occasion, the Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Human Resources Management, SU Agba, congratulated the graduating officers and urged them to uphold professionalism in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.
Agba, who spoke on behalf of the Comptroller-General, stressed the importance of technology as a critical enabler in addressing contemporary challenges in border security and migration management.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Immigration Service to continuous training, professional upgrading and the welfare of its personnel, noting that a well-trained workforce remains essential to effective border management and migration administration.
The Commandant of the Immigration Training School, Kano, CIS AN Akuneme, disclosed that a record number of cadets were mobilised for the course, making the 2026 edition the largest in the history of the training school.
Akuneme charged the graduating officers to remain responsive to the changing dynamics of border management by facilitating legitimate migration while preventing irregular migration and trans-border threats.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of merit awards to deserving course participants, recognising outstanding performance during the training.
A major highlight of the event was the commissioning of an ultra-modern market constructed by the course participants as part of the activities marking the successful completion of the course.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of various security agencies as well as senior serving and retired officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
