The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has deepened international cooperation on migration management and border security through its participation in a high-level migration sub-forum in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, China.
The Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters, Abuja, disclosed this in a statement on the four-day event held from September 8th to 11th, 2026.
The forum brought together more than 2,000 participants from 139 countries and organisations to strengthen international cooperation in migration management and address emerging transnational challenges.
As part of the programme, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, K.N. Nandap, pcc, fsmn, held a bilateral meeting with the National Immigration Administration of China on September 9th.
The meeting focused on issues of mutual interest, with both institutions exploring opportunities for stronger collaboration through technical exchanges, information sharing and capacity-building initiatives.
The second day featured country presentations on migration policy initiatives, with participants discussing ways to strengthen cooperation in tackling irregular migration and transnational organised crime.
The programme it also parallel sessions on smart digital services and administration for foreigners, as well as document verification, technology and intelligence sharing for secure borders.
The NIS participated in the session on advancing document verification, contributing to a roundtable discussion on Nigeria’s efforts to combat document fraud and falsification of records, while highlighting measures to strengthen document verification and border security.
The Nigeria Immigration Service assured it remained committed to strengthening international partnerships, intelligence sharing and technical cooperation to promote secure borders and effective migration management.
