Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 14 kidnapped victims following a swift operation against terrorists in Horo Birni Village, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Military sources disclosed that the operation was carried out in the early hours of August 4, 2026, after troops of the 8 Division Strike Team, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Sifawa, acted on credible human intelligence indicating terrorist activities in the area.
According to military source, the terrorists had attacked the village and were retreating with abducted civilians and rustled livestock when the troops swiftly mobilised to intercept them.
On making contact with the fleeing terrorists, the troops engaged them with overwhelming firepower, forcing the criminals to abandon the kidnapped victims and flee into nearby hideouts.
Following the firefight, the troops conducted a thorough exploitation of the general area, leading to the successful rescue of all 14 abducted civilians.Crime & Justice
The military said the timely intervention prevented the terrorists from escaping with their captives and underscored the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations being conducted under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
Security forces have continued efforts to track the fleeing terrorists while maintaining dominance in the area to prevent further attacks and reassure residents of their safety.
The latest operation is part of ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA aimed at restoring peace and security across the North-West.
