Anambra IGP VCRU Operatives Recover AK-47 Magazines, Live Ammunition, Police-Related Items in Cultists’ Hideout in Awada

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the IGP Violent Crime Reponse Unit VCRU in the evening of 20th June 2026 recovered two AK-47 magazines, sixty rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and other Police-related items during a sustained raid on a suspected cultists’ hideout in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. This was contained in a statement signed by SP. Ikenga Tochukwu, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka.

The Police team stormed the notorious black spot known for cult-related activities at Nwaziki Street, Awada. Although no suspect was arrested at the scene, the operatives have commenced investigations to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, establish ownership of the recovered exhibits, and unravel any criminal network linked to the items recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc mnips PhD, while commending the operatives for their proactive intelligence-led policing efforts, reaffirms the Command’s resolve to sustain aggressive raids against criminal elements and their enclaves across the State.
