The Inspector General of Police ably represented by the Deputy Inspector- General of Police in Charge of the South-East Geopolitical Zone, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc, today 23rd June 2026, led a strategic stakeholders’ engagement on security in Anambra State. The exercise is aimed at strengthening collaboration among security agencies, traditional institutions, government representatives, community leaders, and other critical stakeholders for sustainable peace, security, and public safety. This was contained in a statement signed by SP. Ikenga Tochukwu. Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka.
The statement reads: “The engagement which is being held in different geopolitical zones in the country, is in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+) NPM to provide a platform for participants to deliberate on prevailing security challenges in the State, identify emerging threats, and proffer practical solutions geared towards enhancing intelligence sharing, community participation, and coordinated security responses.
“In his remarks, DIG Onwuemelie emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing security concerns, noting that effective policing thrives on the support and cooperation of the public. He urged stakeholders to sustain their partnership with security agencies through timely information sharing and active participation in community-based security initiatives.
“As part of his operational visit to Anambra State, the DIG paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Awka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Gibson Nwosu (Eze Uzu II of Awka). The visit is part of courtesy and respect to the traditional institutions in promoting peace, conflict resolution, and intelligence gathering at the grassroots level.
“The Royal father commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their efforts in maintaining security across the State and assured the DIG of the continued support and cooperation of the traditional institution in fostering a safer and more secure environment for residents.
“The program reinforced the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building stronger partnerships with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and public confidence in the South-East region.
“In attendance include, heads of other security agencies as well as vigilantes of the State, Secetray to Anambra State Government, Anambra State Traditional Council, Members of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, transporters association, Anambra Chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Members of Civil society Organisations, Members of Northern Community
“Anambra State Police Command remains committed to supporting collaborative security initiatives that will guarantee the safety of lives and property and promote lasting peace across the State, ” it also added.
