The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied any involvement in the recent freezing of the Osun State Government’s financial accounts, clarifying that state security agencies operate independently of political parties.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, who serves as Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the APC National Campaign Council for the Osun State Governorship Election, made the clarification following the inaugural meeting of the campaign’s publicity committee.
Addressing journalists on the development, Governor Sule explained that the decision by the President to order the immediate unfreezing of the state’s account was motivated by fairness and a desire to avert political misrepresentation ahead of the poll.
”Freezing of an account is not done by a political party. APC is not responsible for freezing any account whatsoever, security agencies are security agencies of the nation, not of a political party.
“Even if there were legitimate reasons for the freezing of the accounts, the President, being a fair leader, ordered them unfrozen to prevent public misunderstanding,” – Sule stated.
Speaking on the campaign council’s preparations for the election, Governor Sule noted that the inaugural meeting served to outline the committee’s mandate, delegate responsibilities across smaller sub-committees, and review resource requirements for effective coverage.
He commended the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, for coordinating the preparatory work.
Governor Sule reiterated the APC’s commitment to securing victory through peaceful and democratic means, emphasizing that the party remains focused on ensuring a transparent process.
”The election in Osun is very important for our party and for the nation. We want to ensure it is free, fair, and conducted peacefully by INEC. We want to win, but we do not want to win through hostility or any approach other than peace,” he said.
